AUFTRAG — THE BRIEF
Launch film for a sequencing platform — the kind of machine that usually gets lit like a refrigerator and scored like a car ad. Illumina wanted something their scientists would not be embarrassed by, shot in the actual labs, with the actual people, on a schedule that respected running experiments.
UMSETZUNG — THE APPROACH
We treated the lab like a landscape: long lenses, available light augmented rather than replaced, machines heard before they are seen. Three movements — sample, signal, answer — cut to the rhythm of the instruments themselves. Graded warm against the cliché of teal science.
Two units, five days, no second takes of anything alive.
